About the Exhibition

This exhibition explores the evolution of 20th-century fashion through 40 dreamlike dresses. Held at the Uffizi's Fashion Museum, it sheds light on the currents of 20th-century fashion through the remarkable creations of designers including Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, and Roberto Capucci, ranging from 1920s flapper style to the glamorous style of Enrico Coveri in the 1980s. The exhibition organizes fashion from the 1920s through the 1980s into five sections, harmonizing 40 dresses in total with the work of 20th-century painting masters Galileo Chini, Felice Casorati, and Alberto Burri. Many of the works on view, including a dress from Yves Saint Laurent's youth and a dress once owned by Ingrid Bergman, are on public display for the first time, exploring the intersection of fashion and art. Visitors can experience the history of fashion and the currents of art at once, with a particularly distinctive visual experience in the sections emphasizing 1920s flapper style and 1980s Space Age style.
