About the Exhibition

This exhibition sheds light on the aesthetic shift known as 'New Objectivity' photography through the work of photographers active in the 1920s and 1930s. After World War I, the traditional photographic aesthetic emphasizing emotion declined, and a new photographic movement emerged pursuing technological modernism and an intuitive, honest visual language. The exhibition shows the core of this movement through the work of photographers including Germany's Ellen Auerbach, Aenne Biermann, Karl Blossfeldt, Alfred Ehrhardt, Albert Renger-Patzsch, and August Sander. Centered especially on the 1929 exhibition 'Film und Foto,' held at the German Werkbund, it also includes works by Austrian photographers Trude Fleischmann, Grete Kolliner, Rudolf Koppitz, and Otto Skall. The exhibition presents more than 100 photographic works in total, drawn from major European museums, institutions, and private collections, shedding light on this historical turning point in photography.
