The Art of Reading: From Paper to Pixels

About the Exhibition

This exhibition traces the evolution of graphic design since the introduction of horizontal Hangul writing to the printing and publishing field in the 1970s. It reconstructs, period by period, the activity of designers who have studied the relationship between text and image amid the shift from analog to digital environments. It shows the boom of phototypesetting and offset printing technology in the 1970s-80s, the transitional period toward graphic tools and the web in the 1980s-90s, and today's experimental attempts that cross between the material and the immaterial. Examining the dynamic relationship between technological development and visual culture within the flow of graphic design practice, it is an attempt to broaden the foundation of Korean art.
