Passing between the transparent layers of a traditional wooden building, a hand-finished surface, glossy like the color of night, catches the eye. As light flows across the wooden surfaces, multiple layers of tradition and modernity come into harmony here. Visitors are drawn beyond a simple exhibition space into moments imbued with Japan's own distinctive finishing techniques. In particular, the works bearing the smooth surface of Wajima-nuri lacquer seem, the longer you look, to embroider the senses with their sheen. Throughout the gallery, the visitor's movements quietly brush past the layers within each case, and pieces holding long stretches of time seem to speak. Here, time arrives not as a mere passage, but as an emotion that seeps into the body.
