With a gaze that seems to trace the flow of ukiyo-e, the moment you step into the tatami exhibition room where Kawasaki Fusei's 'The Hall and the Mountain' unfolds, the light and lines seem to envelop the visitor in a quiet breath. A stone placed in a small garden seems to silently guard time, and on one wall, a quiet scene of an old town with a leisurely drinking party is depicted. As the viewer gazes at Kawasaki Fusei's woodblock print of a rain-lashed night street, a resonance rises as if walking down a tree-lined avenue in the middle of the night. Filled with works donated by Takeo Nagase, this space brings together landscapes that cross the boundaries of mountain, river, and city, carving out the beauty of life. With every step through the exhibition room, the brushstrokes of hand-painted works brush suddenly against the mind, deepening the feel of ukiyo-e all the more.
