About

The National Cinema Museum first opened its doors on September 27, 1958, at Palazzo Chiablese. It is still run today by the foundation named after Maria Adriana Prolo, the Piedmontese scholar who had been preparing the museum since 1941. After a period in temporary quarters, the museum's current home opened on July 19, 2000, inside the Mole Antonelliana, one of Turin's most iconic buildings, with the exhibition design by architect Gianfranco Gritella and Swiss scenographer François Confino; it opened to the public the following day. Since opening in the Mole, the museum has drawn more than 4.5 million visitors in total, including 753,801 in 2023 and over 800,000 in 2024, making it one of Italy's most visited museums.
