About

The Palazzina di caccia of Stupinigi, in Nichelino near Turin, is a residence of the House of Savoy. Commissioned in 1729 by Vittorio Amedeo II from the architect Filippo Juvarra, it originally served as a royal hunting lodge, and the bronze stag by sculptor Francesco Ladatte crowning its roof has become its emblem. At its heart is the oval great hall, decorated with the Valeriani brothers' ceiling fresco of the Triumph of Diana, goddess of the hunt. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997 as part of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, the palace is owned and managed by the Fondazione Ordine Mauriziano and operates as a museum of art and furnishing devoted to royal furniture and decorative arts.
