About

The Osaka Museum of History, in Otemae, Chuo Ward, Osaka, opened on November 3, 2001. It shares a building with the new broadcast center of NHK Osaka, jointly constructed by the City of Osaka and NHK. The structure rises 13 stories above ground, with a two-story tower and three basement levels, reaching a maximum height of about 135 meters. Beneath the building lie the preserved remains of Naniwa Palace, an ancient imperial palace site, which can be viewed on guided tours. The permanent exhibition runs from the 10th to the 7th floor: the 10th floor recreates the Great Audience Hall of Naniwa Palace from the Nara period; the 9th floor depicts Osaka's streets from the Muromachi through Edo periods; the 8th floor reconstructs an archaeological excavation site; and the 7th floor covers the Taisho and early Showa "Greater Osaka" era.
