Architect Okada Shinichi designed the building, which has a total floor area of 14,269 square meters and received the Japan Institute of Architects' 25-Year Award in 2013. The collection, including entrusted works, numbers about 5,000 pieces, centered on artists connected to Okayama such as Sesshu, Miyamoto Musashi, and Uragami Gyokudo, and spanning old calligraphy and painting, Japanese-style painting, Western-style painting, crafts, sculpture, photography, and calligraphy. The museum opens 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with entry until 4:30, extending to 7:00 p.m. on designated evening-opening days. It closes on Mondays (the following day if Monday is a holiday), over the New Year, and during exhibition changeovers. Admission is 360 yen for adults and 260 yen for university students, free for elementary through high school students, and 170 yen for those sixty-five and older; special and feature exhibitions carry separate fees.
