About
Once the streets of old Nanjing crumbled and death spread through every street, this building may have been the last hope glimpsed in the eyes of survivors amid those terrible days. Walking through a space where the iron doors still seem to hold their heavy breath, the stillness of that day seems to linger in the air. On one wall of the gallery hangs a photograph of the streets of Nanjing. The faces of the people in the photograph are blurred, yet within that blur, their gaze toward some distant point remains vividly clear. The gallery's lighting, kept low and muted, seems to ease the weight for those who come to face the wounds of the past.
