About
Haegue Yang is a visual artist born in Seoul in 1971, currently based between Berlin and Seoul. She moved to Germany in 1994 and earned her Meisterschüler degree at the Städelschule, the state art academy in Frankfurt, where she has served as a full professor since 2017. Working across a range of media, Haegue Yang abstractly expresses the heterogeneity of everyday life, and her work stimulates both the senses and thought. Her exhibitions have been held at many of the world's leading museums, drawing attention internationally. She drew particular notice for her 2018 retrospective at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and for receiving the Wolfgang Hahn Prize. Her work takes everyday miscellany as objects, letting light, sound, and scent pass through them, attempting an interpretation that disrupts cultural and social systems. Haegue Yang's exhibitions guide audiences toward new ways of thinking and are regarded as an important milestone in contemporary art. Recently, she has held solo exhibitions at S.M.A.K. in Ghent, Belgium, the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in Brazil, and the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen, among others. Haegue Yang has held exhibitions at many museums internationally, and her work contributes to the exploration of unconventional interpretations of art.
