The moment you step through the door, Persian sunlight cuts across a space built of concrete and glass, giving a sense of weight as though the earth and stone of the ancient Middle East were flowing through it. Light descending from the ceiling brushes past iconic sculptures of ancient Egypt, and shadow and form blend together to make one forget time. At the center of the gallery, a medieval European sculpture stands quietly, its expression stopping visitors in their tracks. By the time you reach the masterpieces of Impressionism, brushstrokes seem to cut through the air, and color seems to seep into the landscape itself.
