About

Originally part of Japan's leased territory, this building once housed the artifacts an explorer had brought back from Central Asia, but over time it became a quiet space that still holds the traces of that past. Walking along walls still marked with bullet holes, one feels the currents of the past quietly breathing on within today's stillness. The ceiling of the central hall is ringed with low columns, lending the room the hush of an old library. The ancient artifacts on display in each gallery preserve the very breath of the people who lived through that era. In particular, the Manichaean relics gathered from Central Asia vividly summon the landscapes of a distant past.
