A museum located in Glasgow City, United Kingdom.
About
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum opened in 1901 as the Palace of Fine Arts for the Glasgow International Exhibition and remains the city's flagship museum. The Spanish Baroque building by John W. Simpson and E. J. Milner Allen, faced in red sandstone, became a Glasgow landmark and reopened in July 2006 after a three-year refurbishment. Its 22 galleries range across art and natural history: Salvador Dali's Christ of Saint John of the Cross, Rembrandt's A Man in Armour, French Impressionist paintings, displays on Charles Rennie Mackintosh, medieval arms and armour, natural history specimens and even a Spitfire. Admission is free, and free daily recitals are played on the 1901 Lewis and Co organ. Restoration of the stonework and roof has been under way since September 2025, but the museum remains open throughout.
