The moment you open the door and step inside, the classical atmosphere of the Palazzo dei Conservatori seems to lightly envelop the body. Climbing along the stone staircase, an energy as if the spirit of ancient Rome lay sleeping seeps up from the floor, girded like the sash of a cathedral. The walls and ceiling touched by Michelangelo's hand hold a stillness that seems to defy time, and even within that darkness, the shadow of sculpture seems to keep pace with the visitor's footsteps. Light from an old era seeps over the stone furnishings, and the sound of marble rings softly beneath one's feet. There is so much to see here that, in what feels like a single breath, it seems impossible to finally leave.
