About

Kodokan is a space that carries the educational spirit of Edo-period domain schools into the present day. A bronze sculpture in the courtyard, titled 'Symbol of the Japanese Educational Spirit,' slows visitors' steps to a weightier pace. In the open interior, visitors quietly sense the passage of the sky through a window in the corner. The calligraphy works of Taito Shinzo, displayed in each exhibition room, create a tension of stillness. Within the wooden structure's vast palette of tones, a mood flows in which past and present blend into one. This is a place of contemplation devoted solely to the pursuit of the spirit, a space that holds the educational spirit of Japan.
