A museum located in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
About
Eye Filmmuseum traces its roots to the Dutch Historical Film Archive, founded in 1946 by Piet Meerburg and others, which grew into the Nederlands Filmmuseum before merging with other film-related institutions to become the museum known today. Its current building, designed by Austrian firm Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, opened on April 4, 2012, at a ceremony attended by Queen Beatrix. It sits on the north bank of the IJ in Amsterdam's Overhoeks district, reached by ferry from behind Amsterdam Central Station. The museum's archive holds a vast collection, including 210,000 cans of acetate film, as well as roughly 2,000 colonial-era films from Indonesia and Suriname.
