An art museum located in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan.

About

The Museum of Art, Ehime opened in 1998 in Horinouchi, Matsuyama, at the foot of the park laid out on the former grounds of Matsuyama Castle. Its predecessor, the Ehime Prefectural Museum of Art, opened in March 1970, and the present museum consists of a main building and a south wing, serving as the hub of the prefecture's art activities where the castle greenery meets the city center. The collection ranges from Western paintings such as Monet's Cap d'Antibes (1888) and works by Cezanne, to Japanese-style painters like Seiho Takeuchi and Yukihiko Yasuda, and posters by the locally born graphic designer Hisui Sugiura. The museum's other face is its declared identity as a participatory museum built around seeing, making and learning: in the south wing's citizens' gallery and atelier, programs for hands-on creation and study run alongside the exhibitions. Opening hours are 9:40 to 18:00.
