About
The Ebara Hatakeyama Museum of Art, in Shirokanedai, Minato Ward, Tokyo, opened in 1964 as the Hatakeyama Memorial Museum, established by Issei Hatakeyama (1881-1971, art name Sokuo) on a corner of his private estate, Hannya-en. Built on a roughly 3,000-tsubo (about 9,900-square-meter) site, the museum's holdings center on tea utensils alongside calligraphy, paintings, ceramics, and lacquerware from Japan, China, and Korea. The collection totals about 1,300 items, including six National Treasures and 33 Important Cultural Properties. The museum closed in March 2019 and underwent roughly four and a half years of expansion and renovation work before being renamed the Ebara Hatakeyama Museum of Art in September 2024 and reopening on October 5 of that year.
