About
The Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, in Kosakahonmachi, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, opened in 1995. It stands on a hilltop that was once the site of Koromo Castle (also known as Shichishu Castle), designed by architect Yoshio Taniguchi with gardens by the American landscape architect Peter Walker. Its holdings span art, design, and craft from the late 19th century to the present, including modern masterworks by Gustav Klimt and Ryusei Kishida and decorative art from the Wiener Werkstatte. A dedicated pavilion within the museum is devoted to the lacquer artist Setsuro Takahashi. In April 2024, the Toyota City Museum opened on an adjoining site, placing the two institutions side by side.
