By collecting, preserving, exhibiting, investigating, and researching materials on the history of our nation's overcoming of national hardships and its national development — through which our people overcame foreign invasions and defended their self-reliance and independence — this shall contribute to establishing the identity of national culture, fostering the people's firm national spirit, and establishing a proper view of the state. (Article 1, Independence Hall of Korea Act)
About
Earth and stone piled long ago on this land have today become a quiet space of remembrance, upon which a pillar of hope has been erected. The Hall of the Korean People rises toward the sky as if modeled after the main hall of Sudeoksa Temple, and beneath it flows a stillness as if time itself has stopped. The Statue of the Indomitable Korean bears a weight as if formed from earth and stone, seeming to bow its head to the footsteps of the people passing behind it. In the 3D theater, voices from the past flow out, engraving unforgettable memories in the hearts of visitors. At the Hill of the Wish for Unification, a line of writing carved into stone seeps into the wind, conveying its meaning to people today. The Tower of the Korean People stands in a form reaching its hands toward the sky, hinting that the flight of the nation still continues.
