A museum located in The Hague, Netherlands.
About
Beelden aan Zee grows out of the private collection of Lida Scholten-Miltenburg (1922-2026) and Theo Scholten (1927-2005), and is established as a museum in 1994. Queen Beatrix presides over its official opening that same year. The museum sits at Harteveltstraat 1 in Scheveningen, The Hague, built entirely beneath a coastal dune. Architect Wim Quist designs the building so that it remains invisible from the surrounding dune, boulevard, and beach. It is the only Dutch museum devoted exclusively to sculpture, with a particular focus on modern and contemporary international sculpture from after the Second World War. Since 2003 it has also housed the Sculpture Institute, a research center for modern sculpture, and since 2004 it has offered free access to Tom Otterness's outdoor sculpture park, Sprookjesbeelden aan Zee.
