The exterior, finished in black concrete and white tile, carries a cold texture as if it had swallowed a single page of abstract art whole. In the high-ceilinged hall, lighting fixed to the ceiling flows softly over the paintings on the walls, wrapping the outlines of the objects within in a light as if they were asleep. In a gallery filled mainly with the works of Impressionist and Realist painters, light descends along the layered wooden floor, brushing the visitors' feet. This is not simply a space for displaying paintings, but a place to look into the gaps of time stained with the landscape and sentiment of Russia. Those who pass through this museum do not simply look at the Russian landscape as if walking upon its land — they let themselves sink into its flow.
