About
The exterior walls, built up in white concrete, form what looks like an immense projection reaching toward the sea. The ship-shaped silhouette continuing along the walls gives the feeling of a vessel emerging onto land, drawing visitors slowly inside. The interior mimics the actual structure of a ship, forming a space divided into fragments, evoking the sensation of walking upon the sea. An acoustic design fills the space with what sounds like the faint hum of engines and machinery, and scattered in between, disorienting spaces convey a scattered friction of sound. The wheelhouse on the top floor feels as though it floats in midair, stirring the gaze that looks out toward the sea. The Sōya in the annex conveys a fearsome sense of realism, and within its embrace, the old days remain fully intact.
