About
The Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall is a museum built on October 22, 2002, at 255 Hyochang-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to commemorate Baekbeom Kim Gu, an independence movement leader of Korea. The memorial hall was built after the Committee for the Investigation of the Truth Behind the Assassination of Baekbeom Kim Gu proposed its construction in 1996, and after receiving a pledge of support from President Kim Dae-jung in 1998. In December 2008, its name was changed from the Baekbeom Memorial Hall to the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall. The memorial hall is an exhibition space that comprehensively shows Kim Gu's life from childhood to his death, and consists of the first and second floors. In the central hall on the first floor, a seated statue of Kim Gu is installed, and visitors can examine his life and role in the independence movement through related relics and photographic materials. The exhibits mainly consist of materials and artifacts related to the independence movement, with an emphasis on understanding Baekbeom Kim Gu's spirit and achievements. The memorial hall's architecture symbolically expresses Kim Gu's thought and spirit, and the exhibition space is arranged to systematically convey his life and activities. The exterior of the building maintains a simple yet solemn atmosphere. Visiting hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from March to October, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from November to February. It is closed every Monday and on public holidays, and admission is free. For visitors, it is a space to learn about and commemorate Kim Gu's life and patriotic spirit, and it is also a historic site in harmony with Hyochang Park.
