Ainu Art Museum

Once the center of an Ainu community, this building has now become a space steeped in their life and art. Its exterior, imitating the form of traditional houses built of wood and grass, is adorned with hand-carved wooden ornaments that give off a quiet fragrance. Beyond the entrance, garments made of wild plants, hand-woven cloth, and instruments once played for traditional music are placed within a time that flows quietly and unseen. The Ainu belief in nature and life, central to their culture, is engraved throughout the space, and candlelight, even in the darkness, conveys a faint hope as if imbued with spirit. As if the voices of the Ainu could be heard within it like the wind, this museum offers visitors the warmth of a genuine community that is never cold.
