Sunlight seeping through the high skylights that let the wind pass through covers the floor with a warm shadow, as if following the fingertips of a painter from centuries past. The time that had been flowing along the alleyway comes to an abrupt stop here, pausing before the portraits hung on the finely appointed walls. Among them, one portrait — a woman with a warm gaze that seems to capture a mother's face — carries intact the passion of the Accademia di San Luca, where she was first recognized as a painter.
