About the Exhibition

This exhibition is centered on pastel technique from the 18th through the 20th century, exploring pastel art's subtle yet powerful visual force. Organized by the Tretyakov Gallery, it shows how artists conveyed emotion and feeling through the distinctive softness and clarity of the pastel medium. Major Russian and European artists participate, including works by Aleksandr Lépin and Ivanov Ivanov. The exhibition presents 40 pastel works in total, spanning the late 18th through the mid-20th century, shedding light on pastel's position and significance in art history. Composed especially of works emphasizing pastel's transparency and color, the exhibition allows visitors to experience subtle shifts in color and texture.
