Woo Soon-ok: Art is already in your heart

About the Exhibition

U Sunok (1958-2023) was an artist who pioneered a distinctive territory of conceptual art within Korean contemporary art. Having studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany, she delicately contemplated the relationship between the visible and the invisible, presence and absence, and built her own formal language at the point where life and art meet. In memory of U Sunok, who passed away in 2023, the Sungkok Art Museum has organized a retrospective surveying her body of work, from her early works of the 1980s to her major pieces made just before her death. This exhibition retraces the trajectory of thought and practice one artist pursued over a lifetime, and newly sheds light on the meaning and artistic legacy she left in Korean contemporary art.
