About the Exhibition
Based on a 1992 statement by writer and poet Ry Nikonova that 'the book is everything,' this exhibition explores how a book can transform from a simple collection of text into a three-dimensional object, a space, or a canvas, mirror, or virtual plane. Its theme is 'The Empty Space Women Artists Express Through the Book,' exploring women's identity and emotion through the medium of the book. The main artists include Ry Nikonova, Linda Brown, Marta Fuentes, Eva Luis, and Alixa Cortés, each conveying personal experience and social messages through books. The exhibition includes works from the 1990s to today, presenting about 40 works in total, organized into three sections under the theme 'Beyond the Form of the Book.' Visitors can experience the distinctive objects the artists have created from books, combinations of text and image, and experiments in virtual space, with Ry Nikonova's series 'Tattooed with Emptiness' and Alixa Cortés's text-image collaborative work especially noteworthy.
