About the Exhibition

This exhibition spotlights the multifaceted output of Takehisa Yumeji (1884-1934), a leading figure of modern Japanese art. Working as a painter, poet, journalist, designer, and illustrator, he was active from the late Meiji period to before the Pacific War and contributed deeply to modern Japanese culture. The exhibition centers on the 'Yumeji-style' images of women he created and the range of visual expression through which he captured the spirit of his era. It presents a total of 120 works, organized into four sections exploring his artistic development and social context. His signature works 'Dream of Spring' and 'Dream of Night' in particular are on view, offering visitors his poetic, emotive world.
