About the Exhibition

Collecting: The Room of Decisions is an exhibition that begins from fundamental questions about what a collection is preserved for, what must be institutionally protected from disappearing, and whom collecting is meant to remember. Rather than a simple presentation of collection works, this exhibition reveals the 'collecting system' itself, showing how a museum records social and ethical truths and continually brings into the public sphere what has been pushed to the margins of history, institutions, and the market. It includes works from the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan's collection across various genres — film, video, animation, sculpture, painting, new media — each showing in its own way how contemporary events, images, and narratives are generated and disappear. The exhibition also includes works not held in the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan's collection, positioned as questions for the future and objects proposed for visitors' own judgment. Inviting visitors not merely to view but to become subjects who deliberate together on future collecting, the exhibition reveals the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan's long-term commitment to sustaining and preserving the values of the future.
