About the Exhibition

Centered on The Last Post, a single-channel HD digital animation made in 2010 by Pakistani-born artist Shahzia Sikander, this exhibition critically explores the impact of British colonialism on Asia. Sikander fuses the Indo-Persian miniature painting tradition with a contemporary sensibility, visually reinterpreting historical power structures. The exhibition includes The Last Post along with other works by Sikander, presenting 10 works in total. Running from July 3, 2025, to November 8, 2026, it explores the complex relationship between British colonialism and Asian culture. Visitors can experience a visual narrative centered on a European man wearing a red sash symbolizing British nobility, along with scenes blending various cultural elements such as Indian palace architecture, Chinese paper-cutting, and watercolor maps.
