SeMA Public Space Project 《Eternal Crossing Dance》

About the Exhibition

As part of its 2025 Shared Space Project, the Seoul Museum of Art invites Ernesto Neto, a globally renowned artist who has expanded the horizons of contemporary sculpture. The new work Ba Ka Ba, an Eternally Crossing Dance is a large-scale installation spanning the lobby and open areas of the Seosomun Main Building, made by crocheting industrial cotton fabric — brown evoking tree trunks and night, and pink symbolizing flowers and day — into a structure filled with domestically grown guava and tea leaves. 'Ba Ka Ba' in the title is an onomatopoeic word whose beginning and end are the same, symbolizing a rhythm and cycle that crosses inside and outside, and the flow of life force. Crossing elements Neto has steadily explored — the body and space, sensation and thought, self and other, nature and civilization — this work breathes fresh, if foreign, vitality into the lobby's predominantly linear space.
