About the Exhibition

This exhibition addresses the Renaissance art that flourished in Europe from the 15th to the 16th century, presenting more than 50 selected works from the rich collection of the Louvre in Paris. It is organized around four themes to explore the essential characteristics of the Renaissance: 'Travel,' 'Innovation and Refinement of Technique,' 'A Gaze Toward Ancient Culture,' and 'The Flourishing of Portrait Art.' Artists of this era re-examined the culture of ancient Greece and Rome, developing a new artistic attitude that emphasized human subjectivity. Leonardo da Vinci's 'Portrait of a Woman' (commonly known as 'La Belle Ferronnière') in particular stands as a leading Renaissance portrait, showing an attempt to express inner emotion as well as outward appearance. Spanning painting, sculpture, prints, sketches, and craft, the exhibition offers a chance to explore the essence of Renaissance art.
