About the Exhibition

Centered on the art collection of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, this exhibition surveys the major currents of Austrian art since 1918. It shows several tendencies in Austrian art, addressing in particular New Objectivity after 1918 and abstraction and contemporary art after Expressionism. Major artists include leading New Objectivity figures such as Rudolf Wacker and Franz Sedlacek, along with contemporary artists such as Maria Lassnig and Tobias Pils. The exhibition presents about 100 works in total, spanning from 1918 to the present, showing the historical context and contemporary development of Austrian art at once. Through works that cross the boundary between New Objectivity and abstraction, and connections among contemporary artists, visitors can experience the diversity of Austrian art.
