About the Exhibition

Centered on the work of British-Kenyan contemporary artist Michael Armitage, this exhibition explores his artistic vision, which moves freely between reality and dream. It was conceived to reflect major issues of contemporary society — social conflict, violence, ideology, the global migration crisis — through art, and to offer deep reflection on human identity and memory. Major works include 45 paintings and more than 100 sketches in total, showing his rich, vivid pictorial language. Spanning two floors of the Palazzo Grassi, the exhibition addresses themes including migration, war, and social pressure. Highlights include a series depicting migrants' perilous journeys on a large scale, and works inspired by cinema and literature.
