This exhibition explores the aesthetics and artistic achievements of Martin Schongauer, an artist active in the medieval German region. It is conceived to re-examine his artistic influence through his sculpture, drawings, and especially his prints. Key works include 'Madonna of the Rose Bower,' made in 1473, his only woodcut, displayed alongside his engravings. The exhibition emphasizes Schongauer's standing, recognized as a master printmaker even in his own lifetime, showing the development of medieval German art and its influence across Europe. It comprises around 60 works spanning the late medieval period to the 17th century. Highlights include his outstanding printmaking technique and the historic Madonna painting on view.
