Marina Abramovic: Balkan Erotic Epic

About the Exhibition

This exhibition is Marina Abramović's first major solo exhibition in Berlin since the 1990s. Titled 'Balkan Erotic Epic,' it brings together work themed on sexual energy, ritual, death, and the body, grounded in the traditions and culture of the Balkan Peninsula. The exhibition presents both historical works and new work together, tracing her ongoing exploration of the body as a site of political resistance. It comprises 30 works in total, with the exhibition space divided into sections reflecting Balkan tradition and its contemporary reinterpretation. In particular, the work depicting 'women massaging their breasts' stands at the exhibition's core, showing the way sexual energy contributes to a community's balancing itself against death.
