About the Exhibition

This solo exhibition focuses intensively on the artistic exploration of Lorna Simpson. It is organized around her painting practice, especially from the 2010s onward, following her critical exploration since the mid-1980s of how images are constructed through conceptual photography. The exhibition includes about 50 works in total, spanning multiple media including painting, collage, sculpture, installation, and film. It covers about 20 years of her work, including her major series Ice, Special Characters, and Earth and Sky, and features her contribution to the 2015 Venice Biennale as well as new work made especially for this exhibition. The exhibition is organized into three main sections, each emphasizing the narrative elements that make up the virtual worlds and stories her work presents. In particular, her large-scale collage-based installations play an important role in her creative process, showing visual language and conceptual approach at once.
