About the Exhibition

This exhibition explores the artistic relationship and creative process of Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock. The two artists first met in New York in 1941 and, after marrying in 1945, lived together in Springs, New York, forming close personal, artistic, and professional ties. Though Pollock's fame historically overshadowed Krasner, today the work of both artists is being reassessed as central to mid-20th-century artistic innovation. Inspired by Krasner's 1976 work 'Past Continuous,' the exhibition traces how the two artists' lives and work were shaped by lived experience and memory. It includes around 40 works, comparing the two artists' early paths and artistic identities to reveal multiple fronts of American modern art. Signature works such as Pollock's 'Number 1A, 1948' and Krasner's 'The Deep' in particular offer a look at the two artists' creative process and mutual influence.
