GOOD MORNING MR. PAIK & JUNG - The Jung Gi-yong Collection: A Map of Friendship Drawn by Nam June Paik, John Cage, and Joseph Beuys

About the Exhibition

Within the vast currents of modern art, we encounter three pioneers: Nam June Paik, John Cage, and Joseph Beuys. Their bond, which began in a lecture room in Darmstadt, Germany, in 1958, grew beyond mere friendship into a great 'wave' that changed the landscape of 20th-century avant-garde art. This exhibition was organized around some 30 photographs and prints of the three artists from the 'Jeong Kiyong Collection,' donated to the Jeonnam Museum of Art last year. It traces the roughly 30-year journey of how Cage's 'emptiness,' Beuys's 'healing,' and Paik's 'communication' became artistic fuses for one another. It presents a 'map of friendship' among the three masters — from Cage's silence leading to Paik's destructive performances, to Beuys's raw voice resonating across the world through Paik's satellite art, culminating in the global harmony of 1984's 《Good Morning, Mr. Orwell》.
