About the Exhibition

The Seoul Museum of Art presents the Gana Art Collection special permanent exhibition The Underside of Technology: Scenes at the Border. Combining works donated in 2001 by Gana Art CEO Lee Ho-jae with the collection the Seoul Museum of Art has built up over the years, this exhibition sheds light on the landscape of Korean society formed amid the rapid industrialization, urbanization, and changing media environment of the 1970s-90s. It focuses on the social fractures and scenery that lay behind the dazzling growth Korean society achieved through the combination of capitalist economic development and technological advancement, examining how art has captured and given form to the sense of reality and life amid sociocultural upheaval. The exhibition is organized into three sections: 'Between Flickering Lights,' 'The Abyss of a New Order,' and 'Radiant Void.'
