Daegu Forum V: A Whisper Toward the Outside

About the Exhibition

Daegu Forum is the Daegu Art Museum's signature special exhibition series exploring various contemporary phenomena through the lens of art. Now in its fifth edition in 2026, this exhibition, Whispers Toward the Outside, examines art's way of sensing the world in its quietest voice, asking what small signals we are missing amid an overflow of loud words. A whisper is a very small voice, but it draws the listener in, making them pay closer attention to the speaker's expression and gestures. In eras of censorship and repression, stories that could not be captured in official records have been carried on through oral tradition and testimony, conveying another kind of truth. The eight participating artists each present such moments of whispering in their own language. Tao Nguyen Phan summons the lingering echoes of memory that have not disappeared even after colonization and war, while Shirin Neshat gazes at the process by which individuals reclaim their own voices amid illusions created by power and media.
