About the Exhibition
This exhibition addresses the work of Romanian-born artist Constantin Brancusi, active from the late 19th through the mid-20th century. It sheds light on his artistic journey through the original style he developed after beginning his career in Paris in 1907, and through works reflecting the artistic ideals he pursued. Organized in cooperation with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, this is the first large-scale exhibition of his work held in Germany in 50 years. The exhibition includes more than 150 sculptures, photographs, drawings, films, and rarely seen archival materials, including signature works such as The Kiss, Bird in Space, Sleeping Muse, and Endless Column. It shows how Brancusi simplified sculptural form to its extreme and staged his work using light, movement, photography, and film, emphasizing his position as a foundational figure of modern sculpture.
