About the Exhibition

This exhibition centers on Andy Warhol's drawing practice, exploring his artistic identity. Titled 'Andy Warhol. La ligne et l'image,' it emphasizes that drawing was not merely a technique but a core element of his entire artistic practice. Andy Warhol began as an illustrator before expanding into silkscreen, film, and installation art, but drawing remained a tool he used continually throughout his creative process. The exhibition shows that Warhol's drawing practice spanned about 40 years, from a 1942 self-portrait to 'La Dernière Cène' in 1986. It comprises a total of 150 drawings, alongside his paintings, silkscreens, photographs, and archival materials. Organized into five themes, the exhibition draws particular attention to his imagery related to sexual minorities and his exploration of death. Visitors can experience Warhol's visual thinking and creative experimentation through his drawings, with his self-portraits, Mao portrait drawings, and works related to 'La Dernière Cène' standing as key highlights.
