About the Exhibition

This exhibition spotlights the artistic legacy of Ana Mendieta, marking the UK's first showing of her major works alongside newly restored films, early paintings, and later sculptural pieces. It centers on works from her active period in the late 1970s and early 1980s, addressing key themes she explored — the earth and identity, the presence and disappearance of the body. Her signature 'Silueta Series' in particular uses natural materials such as fire, water, and flowers to express the form and trace of the body, recorded through photography and film. The exhibition includes around 30 works, showing her artistic approach to exploring the relationship between nature and humanity. Visitors can experience important works that reveal her artistic identity alongside her creative attempts to cross the boundary between nature and art.
