About the Exhibition

This exhibition explores the historical and artistic relationship between Islamic art and the decorative arts department, centered on the concept of 'connection.' It spotlights the influence of Islamic art on European decorative arts through East-West exchange since the medieval period, and re-examines the long history of the Louvre displaying Islamic art within its decorative arts department. Organized around three themes — 'Light,' 'Color,' and 'Carving' — the exhibition presents around 50 works of Islamic art from the 9th to the 17th century, exploring the wonder of nature and visual art through their refined technique and beauty. As the Islamic Art department undergoes renovation, the exhibition also offers visitors a chance to see some of its key works. The exhibition's atmosphere, in harmony with the rich ornamentation of the works on view, in particular stands as a highlight, letting visitors experience the distinctive aesthetics of Islamic art.
