Berlin as seen through the Museum of Contemporary Art's collection: a permanent collection exhibition

Exhibition Info

About the Exhibition

This exhibition explores the global dialogue of the Berlin art world from 1989 to the present, centered on the Hamburger Bahnhof's contemporary art collection. Emphasizing that Berlin is a place where the paths of art, politics, and migration intersect, it sheds light on Berlin's hedonism and consumer culture in an international context through about 70 works. The exhibition includes work by artists such as Cemile Sahin, Katharina Grosse, Mona Hatoum, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Katharina Sieverding, Thomas Struth, and Dan Hau. Reflecting Berlin's historical division and the complexity of multiple senses of belonging, the exhibition explores the process by which international artists have turned Berlin into a microcosm of global political movements and crises. Held in cooperation between the Hamburger Bahnhof's long-term art collection and the German federal government, the exhibition also presents works that have rarely been shown before. Highlights include Cemile Sahin's 'BB - Born to Bloom' and Mona Hatoum's 'Puzzled.'
