The Story

Zao Wou-Ki is a leading figure of Chinese contemporary art, having presented a distinctive style fusing Western abstract art with Eastern philosophy. Zao Wou-Ki's "Inner Light" is an acrylic painting made in 1966, measuring 102 by 133 cm. This work went to auction with an estimate of £80,000 to £120,000, but sold for £516,000. The work's authenticity was confirmed by Zao Wou-Ki and the Zao Wou-Ki Foundation, and a certificate will also be issued.
